In his role as President and CEO of RAS, Rick Johnson is responsible for shaping the corporate strategy and leading the organization’s vision in becoming a leading Workers’ Compensation provider delivering innovative solutions that promote a safe, healthy, and productive workforce. Rick has successfully spearheaded the company’s strategic initiatives driving growth and success and earning a reputation for solid results.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
In his current capacity at RAS as partner and COO, Ed Johnson’s responsibilities include management of the organization’s information systems, human resources, and other support functions. He successfully led efforts to develop and implement new policy, claims, accounting, and other support systems to support the company’s growth and enhance the products and services provided to policyholders.
Larry’s current position as partner and Executive Vice President allows him to utilize his valuable industry knowledge and experience to identify opportunities for growth, new products and services, and cost-saving solutions. Larry is active within the industry and its various organizations.
Robert J. Hollan, Esq.
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, SECRETARY AND GENERAL COUNSEL
In his current role at RAS, Rob Hollan is responsible for the overall regulatory compliance for Dakota Truck Underwriters (DTU) and First Dakota Indemnity Company (FDI) in the 40 states in which they are licensed. He oversees corporate and regulatory compliance for RAS and its partner companies as well as directs the Finance Department with the assistance of the VP of Finance and Finance staff.
Kelly Whiting has responsibility for RAS’s strategic direction of the sales and marketing efforts. Her role is to lead, inspire, and advocate for RAS: cultivating opportunities in new and existing markets and growing demand for the RAS portfolio of services.
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CLAIMS
In his current position as Senior Vice President Claims at RAS, Mark Stearns oversees the entire Claims Team and continually seeks ways to improve claims processes. He is an integral player in new product and service development at RAS.
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, FINANCE
Ted Brandner is the Senior Vice President of Finance at RAS. In this role, he participates with the executive team in establishing strategic direction for the Dakota Group. He is responsible for the financial planning of the Dakota Group and overseeing the investment portfolio and compliance of the investment manager. He assures the Dakota Group maintains adequate capital and leverage ratios to maintain strong financial ratings and identifies key financial trends.
In her role as Vice President of Human Resources at RAS, Julie Waage supports managers by providing coaching and mentoring in the areas of employee relations and performance management. She conducts employee and manager training and assists with staffing management.
Patrick Berry, Ph.D.
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, LOSS CONTROL
Dr. Patrick Berry directs the loss control services with RAS. Here a human factors/ergonomics perspective is being applied to occupational health, workers’ compensation, and loss control.
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, UNDERWRITING
Bob Sobocinski is in charge of the overall management of the underwriting department providing strategic direction for RAS’s underwriting appetite, guidelines, and rates. Bob also oversees the reinsurance programs for RAS. This includes the analysis, presentation, and negotiation of the terms of coverage with reinsurance brokers and direct reinsurance markets.
